Miesbach: Dispute about Munich drinking water – Bavaria

from

Matthias Köpf and Christian Sebald, Miesbach

Alois Fuchs is not someone who pushes himself to the front, but his lawyer is already there anyway. Fuchs himself prefers to stay in the background, he just has to stand by whenever something happens again. After all, they are not that many who are directly affected by the dispute. In Munich it is, one and a half million people drink the water, most of which is obtained in the Miesbach district. But there in the Mangfalltal it only affects three companies, and one of them is the farm of Alois Fuchs. He is an organic farmer, like everyone else, because the Munich public utility company has long put something on the farmers in the area if they farm in a way that protects the groundwater. But as an organic farmer, Fuchs will soon need a playpen, the building application has been in the district office for years. Fuchs thinks it’s far too long, but the process with which municipal utilities and the authorities in Munich want to expand the water protection area (WSG) in the Mangfall Valley has priority and simply never ends. Only recently, the three farmers and their allies caused another delay themselves. And again everyone is waiting all over Bavaria to see what happens in Miesbach.
