Microsoft: Windows 11 will be able to create 7z and tar archives in the future

Rare is still missing

The advantage of such a function: Archives can be compressed more efficiently via 7z and Tar and therefore require less space on the storage medium. This is helpful, for example, with limited email attachments. However, the other person must also be able to unpack the file formats. Since Zip is widely used as an older archive format and can actually be used by all operating systems, it will probably continue to be used the most. But alternatives are always welcome.

Interesting: In the screenshots, the Rar format is omitted from the selection list. Rar, which is opened and packaged with Winrar, is particularly popular on older Windows systems and in the Windows ecosystem in general. New versions of Windows 11 should offer the ability to open Rar files. The packing function may still be added.

The new options are currently still being tested anyway. It will probably take a few weeks until they are installed on all Windows 11 systems.
