For some time now, Windows Insiders have also been able to try Paint, which is built into Windows 11, in dark mode. Microsoft has now released this design feature for all users. By default, the dark mode is linked to the settings of the operating system. For example, if Windows 11 is used in light mode, Paint also remains light – and vice versa.
However, this can also be adjusted in the app itself. The new version 11.2304.17.0 slightly changes the well-known Paint layout. Instead of using the File & Info menu item, users can access the various options using the new gear icon on the right-hand side of the header. In addition to the version number, you will also find the app design settings there. The app can be used in light, dark or OS mode.
Trigger update manually
The dark mode could be an advantage, especially on OLED displays. Due to less bright areas on the screen, the panel does not wear out as quickly and it does not have to dim as much. In addition, the power requirement is reduced. It makes no difference on IPS, VA or other LC displays. Here it is up to the users which version of Paint they like better.
The magazine Windows Latest has made the new Paint update available for download as a mixbundle file. Paint can be updated directly via this. Alternatively, users can also use the Microsoft Store. An update is triggered manually for this in the Library tab. However, Paint may not be listed here. At least that was the case on a Golem.de test system.
