Microsoft is upgrading Windows with the AI assistant Copilot. This could soon help users with writing emails and other daily things.

Microsoft will be incorporating its AI assistant Copilot into the operating system from next week Bring Windows. The software will initially be available in early form in a free update for Windows 11 on September 26th, Microsoft announced on Thursday. Later in the year, Copilot will also be available in the Edge web browser and the Microsoft 365 cloud platform, among other things.

A central idea is to make the AI helper usable across different offerings and devices in a uniform form. To achieve this, products such as web searches, office programs or operating systems should no longer be viewed as separate categories, emphasized Microsoft boss Satya Nadella. An example of new features was that the copilot could automatically find the exact location of locations mentioned in an email.

Microsoft cooperates with ChatGPT company OpenAI

The company announced the copilot for the Office software in March and wants to offer it to corporate customers in addition to the price of the Microsoft 365 subscription for $30 per user per month. Competitors such as Google and enterprise software specialist Salesforce are also working to upgrade their offerings with artificial intelligence.

Among other things, AI assistants can summarize content from a text and formulate drafts of emails or messages for users. For its AI functions, Microsoft entered into a billion-dollar pact with the start-up OpenAI, from which the chatbot ChatGPT comes.
