Michieletto’s production of Verdi’s “Aida” in Munich – Kultur

Apparently director Damiano Michieletto wanted to please everyone with his staging of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Aida” at the Bavarian State Opera. Didn’t want to scare away the nostalgic or leave unsatisfied those who see this opera with its warlike plot as highly political. That went terribly wrong. A few spectators, apparently expecting a more pleasing narration, left before the break, and there were boos at the break. Maybe even from those who expected something more than a few vaguely topical hints. These include a video feed of wounded soldiers, corpses of civilians, worn-out perpetrators and dead victims.
