In 2021 – when the event for the coveted award could only take place digitally due to corona – a three-star restaurant, three two-star restaurants and 25 restaurants with one star were added.
And this year, too, the chefs will not only be awarded stars for their art in the kitchen. There is again a green star for sustainability between pans and plates. 11 new restaurants have been awarded with it. There are now 61 restaurants in Germany that cook particularly sustainably.
New addition to the three-star sky
With the nice restaurant In the Rhineland-Palatinate wine village of Piesport there is a new addition to the three-star heaven. “Patron and head chef Thomas Schanz has already been awarded two stars for his excellent work at the stove, and now he has been able to raise the level of his modern classic cuisine even further, which makes his restaurant one of the absolute top addresses in German gastronomy,” according to the guide Michelin writes.
“It’s unbelievable, I have to say. To get three stars now – that’s a really big dream that’s coming true here. That’s really big,” said chef de cuisine Thomas Schanz on Wednesday in Hamburg after the award ceremony. This means that there are nine three-star restaurants in Germany.
For many a cook, the publication of the “Guide Michelin” but also a rude awakening: 23 restaurants have lost at least one star, including the three-star “Vendôme” in Bergisch-Gladbach and the “Atelier” in Munich. They now have two Michelin stars.
