Mexican journalist murdered – Media

A journalist has been found murdered in western Mexico. The body of Luis Martín Sánchez Iñiguez was discovered on Saturday in the city of Tepic and identified by his relatives, said the Attorney General of the State of Nayarit. Two handwritten cardboard covers lay on the body of the dead man, which showed signs of violence. The authority did not provide any information on the content of the inscriptions. Sánchez was a correspondent for the daily in Nayarit La Jornadaone of the most important newspapers in the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world.

Luis Martín Sánchez Iñiguez had not been seen since Wednesday evening. His newspaper wrote that at least four other journalists had been murdered in Mexico before him this year. Another media worker is still missing in Nayarit, according to the bulletin of the Attorney General’s Office. Another journalist who was kidnapped by armed men on Friday was found safely.

The international journalist organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) ranks Mexico as one of the world’s most dangerous countries for media professionals. The entanglement of politics and organized crime makes it life-threatening to report on sensitive issues such as corruption or drug and human trafficking and paralyzes the legal prosecution of criminal offenses, writes the organization. It ranked Mexico 128th out of 180 in the Press Freedom Index.
