The problem appears to have been largely resolved

“We are aware of a problem that is affecting the connection to Facebook,” Meta said on its own website. “Our engineering teams are actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

The Downdetector portal, where users can report disruptions, recorded more than 560,000 reports for Facebook and almost 90,000 for Instagram in the US alone. Threads, which launched in 2023 as a competing service to X (formerly Twitter), was apparently also affected. Meanwhile, there seemed to be no problems with the Whatsapp service, which also belongs to Meta.

Facebook: market leader online networks

Tens of thousands of users reported technical problems to the German “All Faults” service. However, the number of fault reports fell sharply again after 20 minutes.

Facebook is the largest online network in the world with three billion active monthly users. According to the latest data, Instagram has more than two billion monthly users.
