A journalist spreads the rumor that Mesut Özil is not injured but is on strike. Later he rows back after a headwind.

Fenerbahce has publicly denied the rumor that his player Mesut Özil had been on strike for the past few weeks. Officially, the German world champion of 2014 has been missing for some time due to an injury to the lumbar vertebrae.

The strike is said to have something to do with the lack of salaries at the Istanbul club, the journalist Volkan Demir recently reported A spor.

Journalist apologizes for Özil rumor

Fenerbahce now reacted and posted on the club’s social media channels: “Today’s reports that Mesut Özil is not playing because salary payments are pending are not true.” At the same time, however, the club admitted financial difficulties in an aside, writing: “Despite difficult financial circumstances, Fenerbahce made every payment on time.”

Fenerbahce demanded an apology from the journalist, which the club promptly received: “I’m at today A spor said that it is pure speculation, the statement is not based on sources within the club, as a reporter I have not verified this speculation and therefore do not declare it as news,” Demir said, adding: “I would like to thank Fenerbahce and the public sorry for this misleading.”
