It has long been rumored that there is a crisis between him and his club Fenerbahce. Now Mesut Özil should leave the Istanbul club and change. But he would stay in the Turkish metropolis.

According to a media report, former world champion Mesut Özil is leaving the Turkish first division club Fenerbahçe Istanbul. Both sides parted amicably, reported the broadcaster NTV Spor. A spokesman for the club initially did not confirm this when asked by the DPA news agency. NTV Spor also reports that Özil is also in talks with the Turkish first division club Medipol Basaksehir.

Özil, who joined Fenerbahçe from Arsenal FC in the English Premier League last year, has been excluded from the Fenerbahçe squad since March. His contract with the top Turkish club actually runs until June 30, 2024. It was only in June that the 33-year-old world champion from 2014 emphasized that he wanted to fulfill his contract despite the suspension.

Club boss has been criticizing Özil for a long time

The reason for the suspension was not made public. In November, club president Ali Koc complained that the 92-time Germany international had to finally focus on his work and put his business matters aside.
