“Merry Musical”: Christmas and musical songs in Munich’s Werksviertel – Munich

There is no scientific evidence that musical fans are particularly receptive to Advent sounds (as has been shown, for example Abba-Fans would rather cuddle up in front of the fire than bungee jump). But it is to be assumed. Because a nostalgic, melodic emotional intoxication connects musical and Christmas songs.

Christmas lovers in the Werksviertel are served twice and threefold: not only with the “Winter-Wunder-Werk” market with an ice skating rink and curling around the Knödelplatz, but also in the district’s theater, Werk 7. There it is appropriately called “Merry Musical”. At the “werktastic Christmas concert” four musical actors and three instrumentalists celebrate a heartwarming mix of musical and Christmas hits, sometimes in four voices, under a glowing Christmas tree and in Christmas costumes for nine evenings.

Denise Lucia Aquino, Judith Caspari, Andreas Bongard (who already played in “The Fabulous World of Amelié” in Werk 7) and the soul and gospel specialist Darrin Lamont Byrd from New York (who was already on stage with “River Dance”) sing Broadway). “This is a great mix that has never existed before,” says presenter and artistic director Dustin Peters, “the most beautiful thing that can happen in December.” He (artistic director of “Ku’damm 56”, currently at the Deutsches Theater) is also obviously a musical and Advent fan.

Merry Musical, 8th-16th Dec., Wed.-Sat. 7:30 p.m., Sun. 5 p.m., Munich, Werksviertel, Plant 7, eventfabrik-muenchen.de/merry-musical
