Merkel’s farewell visit to French President Macron – politics

from

Nico Fried, Beaune

The President drives up. The black limousine stops directly in front of the Hôtel-Dieu in Beaune, Emmanuel Macron gets out, and his first route leads to the citizens who are huddled in four or five rows behind barriers on the sidewalk. Macron loves to bathe in the crowd, and campaigning is coming soon. He shakes hands, speaks to people, lets himself be touched – a nightmare for the security officers. The president doesn’t wear a mask either. In between he strokes his wife Brigitte’s back as if he wanted at least to calm her worries. Then he calls out: “I’ll see the Chancellor. Then I’ll come back with her.”
