The suspected shooter was arrested. He was held in the hall by plant security staff and handed over to the police. It is a 53-year-old employee of an external service provider. He should be heard. The situation on the factory premises is under control. “There is no danger for outsiders,” said a police spokeswoman according to the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” in the morning. The public prosecutor’s office assumes a single perpetrator. The suspected murder weapon was seized. The background to the crime is still unclear.

At around 7.45 a.m., the police were informed by an emergency call about the shots fired in “Factory 56” in the Böblingen district, around 15 kilometers south-west of Stuttgart. Heavily armed special forces then raced to the car factory, and helicopters were also deployed. A large contingent was there.

The “Factory 56” is a Mercedes-Benz plant opened in 2020. Among other things, the new generation of the S-Class will be produced on an area the size of around 30 football pitches, according to the company. 1,500 people are employed there, and around 35,000 at the entire Sindelfingen site.

The “Bild” newspaper first reported on the fatal incident at the plant.
