MEP Valérie Hayer must be named head of the presidential majority list in the European elections, franceinfo learned on Sunday February 25 from a source close to the executive, confirming information from La Tribune on Sunday. Aged 37, she succeeded Stéphane Séjourné at the head of the Renew (Renaissance) group in the European Parliament, after he was appointed Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

In the midst of an agricultural crisis, Valérie Hayer’s profile has several advantages. She was born in Château-Gontier, in Mayenne, a rural department. She herself is the daughter and granddaughter of farmers, underlines France Bleu Mayenne. Before entering the European Parliament in 2019, she served several terms as a local elected official. She was notably vice-president of the department from April 2015 to July 2019.

Valérie Hayer accompanied Emmanuel Macron to the Agricultural Show on Saturday. She was notably present when the President of the Republic inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon.
