Melinda French Gates speaks for the first time about the reasons for the breakup – and how to overcome it.
In an interview, Melinda French Gates (57) speaks for the first time about her divorce from Bill Gates (66). The couple announced in May 2021 that they were separating after 27 years of marriage.
In the conversation on the TV show “CBS Mornings” , which airs Thursday, Gates says there wasn’t a specific moment that led to the breakup. The divorce is said to have had nothing to do with the affair that Bill Gates had with an employee 20 years ago. “I believe in forgiveness, so I thought we’d mostly worked our way through that,” Melinda said.
“It wasn’t a moment or a specific thing that happened. There just came a point when it was enough that I realized it just wasn’t healthy and I couldn’t trust what we had anymore,” says the businesswoman and author.
“A Lot of Tears”
She also talks about her process of mourning. So she would have “shed a lot of tears over many days”. Then she was angry. “It’s part of the grieving process. You’re grieving the loss of something you thought you had and would last your whole life.”
She now feels as if she has slowly arrived at the other end of the “journey of healing”. “I feel like I’m turning the page to a new chapter,” she shared. “I mean it’s 2022 and I’m really excited for what’s to come and the life that lies ahead.”
