Meitingen: Cemetery for Star Children – Bavaria

Sarah Wanner lost her son during childbirth. Together with Nicole Kessler, she created a memorial for children in her small hometown of Meitingen who died before or shortly after birth – an offer that is far too rare in Bavaria.

After the birth it was immediately clear to Sarah Wanner and her husband: They want to hold their son Jakob in their arms, they want to look at and touch him. The little daughter also came into the room. “Children are not afraid of contact, she stroked and kissed him,” says the mother. However, nothing was normal about this birth. Wanner had come to the University Hospital in Augsburg to be initiated, her son had developed normally at 3800 grams. But suddenly, when the contractions started, he stopped moving in his stomach. The family will never know why Jakob’s heart stopped beating so shortly before the birth. Sarah Wanner still gave birth to her son.
