Dmitry Medvedev has published a list of anti-Western predictions for the next year on social media. Twitter boss Elon Musk reacts – and is criticized for it.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev shared his own list of ten predictions for 2023 on Twitter. These include wild scenarios such as the collapse of the European Union, a civil war in the USA – and a US presidency for Twitter boss Elon Musk. “Elon Musk will win the presidential elections in a number of states that will go to the Republicans after the end of the new civil war,” Medvedev wrote.
But it’s not Medvedev’s anti-Western prophecies that are causing the conversation on social media. Because Musk didn’t wait long with his answer to the contribution of Putin’s confidant. This could be interpreted as pleasure in Medvedev’s gloomy theses. “Epic thread,” Musk wrote under the tweets.
Musk has been criticized for his reaction to the list
The entrepreneur met with some criticism. “Are you a Russian agent/propagandist now? Why are you doing this?” wrote Australian politician and former Sydney Mayor Lucy Turnbull. Other users speculated that Musk’s comment was meant to be ironic.
Apparently even Medvedev could not take his predictions very seriously. The list is Russia’s “modest contribution” in the contest for the “wildest” and “most absurd” hypotheses about the future, he wrote in the introduction.
Medvedev repeatedly railed against the West
Medvedev was President of Russia from 2008 to 2012 and Prime Minister from 2012 to 2020. He is currently Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council. Before his election to the presidency, he was seen as a beacon of hope for democratic reforms.
But since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine in February, Medvedev has frequently published anti-Western posts and Russian propaganda in the online media. He regularly attracts attention with aggressive statements in which he describes Russia’s opponents as “assholes” or considers the use of nuclear weapons.
