Sea-Eye brings 106 boat migrants ashore in Italy

The German sea rescuers saved more than 100 people in their last mission this year. There are also 45 minors among them. Many of them are unaccompanied.
The German aid organization Sea-Eye has brought 106 rescued boat migrants ashore in the southern Italian city of Brindisi. The “Sea-Eye 4” arrived in the central area several days after rescuing the people Mediterranean the port, as the organization from Regensburg announced.
The sea rescuers recovered them on Tuesday in international waters south of the Italian island of Lampedusa. The crew became aware of two unseaworthy boats and took the people on board.
There were 45 minors among the migrants – some unaccompanied. It was Sea-Eye’s last rescue mission of the year, the organization said.
Numerous people repeatedly try to reach Italy via the Mediterranean, often using boats that are often unseaworthy. The dangerous crossings sometimes lead to devastating boat accidents. The people either arrive in Italy on their own boats and under their own power or are picked up by civilian sea rescuers and the Italian coast guard. The Interior Ministry in Rome counted more than 155,750 people who reached Italy by sea this year. In the same period last year there were almost 103,850.
