Mediterranean episode: up to 150 mm of water on the Corbières, the Aude always in orange vigilance

The orange alert for the risk of rain and flooding is still in progress in the Aude this Wednesday morning.

According to Vigimétéofrance, which published its last bulletin at 6 a.m. on November 24, the moderate to strong rain-storm axis is in place in the east of the department between Narbonne and Leucate. It has given accumulations of 40 to 80 mm over the past three hours. Elsewhere, the rains are more moderate and the accumulations are generally 10 to 20 mm during the last 3 hours.

According to Vigicrues, several towns in East and South Audois are suffering this morning from very intense rains: Feuilla, Fraissé-des-Corbières, Saint-Jean-de-Barrou, Sigean, Port-la Nouvelle, Peyriac-de- Mer, Narbonne and Gruissan;

Since the start of the episode (Tuesday at the end of the day), it has generally fallen 30 to 50 mm on the department, 70 to 100 mm on a Leucate-Sigean-Carcassonne triangle and 130 to 150 mm east of the Corbières (144 mm recorded in Durban-Corbières, 133 mm in Coustouge). The Lauragais and the Pays de Sault are on the sidelines of the episode with only 5 to 15 mm recorded.

For the time being, no overflow or significant damage is to be deplored. The department remains on orange rain-flood vigilance until 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Reinforcement on the Narbonnais

In the coming hours, the rain-storm line should remain sustained over the east of the department for 1 to 2 hours, bringing another 20 to 30 mm, locally 50 mm. It would weaken quickly by losing its stormy character at the very beginning of the morning but the rains should continue, adding 5 to 10 mm in 3 hours over the department.

During the morning on Wednesday, the precipitation should strengthen again between the Narbonnais and the east of the Montagne Noire, taking on a stormy character. They will again bring between 70 to 100 mm, locally 120 mm during the day on Wednesday. These heavy rains should be evacuated at the end of the day towards the Hérault. Light to moderate rains would then persist until the second part of the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

The rainfall amounts expected during the episode (from Tuesday end of the day to Thursday start of the day) are generally of the order of 80 to 120 mm in the department, 130 to 170 mm from Corbières to Narbonnais, and more than 180 mm locally.

Over the Pays de Sault and the Lauragais, the accumulations are much lower, around 15 to 30 mm, locally 30 to 50 mm.
