Retracting scientific publications for which one was once celebrated is one of the most unpleasant things in a researcher’s life. Geneticist and Nobel laureate Gregg Semenza has had to do this 17 times so far – assuming the journals in which the now questionable articles were originally published didn’t do it for him. Overall, according to a report in the science journal Nature the integrity of 52 professional publications with Semenza’s name on it. They were all published between 2000 and 2021, some in very prestigious journals.
