The war in Ukraine ensured that the English-language Ukrainian newspaper The Kyiv Independent has quickly become one of the most important international media outlets for news from Ukraine. The editorial staff was only in November 2021 after mass layoffs at the Kyiv Post founded. Now the question is how to keep the news site going after this launch in the middle of a war. threatens to do so a new media law in Ukraine further restrict the work. The conversation with editor-in-chief Olga Rudenko, 34, took place on the sidelines of a conference in Rzeszów, Poland, near the border with Ukraine. In between, Rudenko keeps checking messages and has to take phone calls.
