The death of a 13-year-old girl after taking an ecstasy pill caused shock in June. Now it’s clear she actually died from the overdose of this pill.

Four months after the drug-related death of a 13-year-old from Altentreptow Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the cause of death has been clarified. The student died of brain swelling, which led to brain damage, said a spokesman for the Neubrandenburgg public prosecutor’s office. This is proven by the forensic expert’s report, which is now available. The brain swelling was caused by the high-dose active ingredient in the ecstasy pill “Blue Punisher”.

The 13-year-old is said to have taken the drug in Altentreptow in mid-June. She was taken to a clinic unconscious and died at the end of June. The public prosecutor’s office is investigating a 17-year-old suspect who is said to have sold these pills. He is accused of illegal distribution of narcotics resulting in death.

During the same period, two other 14 and 15 year old girls in the Mecklenburg Lake District had to be taken to clinics with health problems after taking these ecstasy pills, but they survived. In this context, several other suspects are being investigated who, among other things, gave such pills to users are said to have given them – including to minors.

The police continue to warn about the “Blue Punisher” pills. These drugs are probably still in circulation, said a police spokeswoman. After the death in June, younger people became a little more cautious.
