“Heartbreaking sadness” for his wife

Meat Loaf died Thursday at the age of 74. His wife Deborah mourns the singer – but also reminds of good times.
On January 20, 2022, Meat Loaf died at the age of 74. His wife, Deborah Gillespie, was by his side until his death in a Nashville hospital. Opposite the “People” magazine Gillespie has now spoken for the first time about her loss – and about the great love for the singer, who celebrated his breakthrough in 1977 with “Bat Out Of Hell”.
“The sadness of the loss of my husband is heartbreaking,” she says. She lay next to him in the hospital until he took his last breath.
Deborah Gillespie had been married to Meat Loaf since 2007, whom she never addressed by his stage name but always by his real first name, Michael.
“It was my pleasure to share it with the world”
Not only does she want to talk about the grief, but also how much her marriage to the singer meant to her. “He meant so much to so many people and it was a pleasure to be able to share him with the world. As his wife, I also want everyone to know how much he meant to me as a husband.”
“For me, it was always about him,” says Gillespie. “From the day we met, he was my world and I loved him. Not a day went by that we didn’t tell each other how much we love them. Not a day that we didn’t hug. “
She describes her husband as a passionate cuddler who places great importance on physical contact. And she remembers the many humorous and silly moments between them. “Some of my fondest memories will always have to do with how we laughed so often and how we brought out each other’s silliness and playfulness.”
Meat Loaf, whose real name was Marvin Addy Lee, but changed his first name to Michael in 1983, married his Deborah in 2007. In his first marriage, the singer and actor was married to Leslie G. Edmonds from 1979 to 2001. The connection resulted in daughters Pearl (47) and Amanda (41).
Meat Loaf’s cause of death is not officially known. According to gossip site tmz.com The rock star is said to have contracted the corona virus shortly before his death.
