David Lisnard wants to attack the “scourge of wokism”. In the columns of Point Thursday, the mayor Les Républicains de Cannes expresses his desire to attack the “woke tyranny” which he considers as an “inverted McCarthyism”. McCarthyism, which took place in the 1950s in the United States, hunted down all possible sympathizers of communism across the Atlantic. David Lisnard therefore believes that “wokism” is a form of 21st century witch-hunting.
The president of the Association of Mayors of France announces an upcoming initiative “to provide both psychological and legal assistance to those who are victims of the woke tyranny”. The contours of this project remain, however, very vague for the moment. But it offers an opportunity for the mayor of Cannes to attack wokism.

He castigates this “pressure” that he claims to have suffered when Family Planning and the collective #NousToutes requested the deprogramming of the rapper Lomepal, accused of rape, from the Les Plages Electroniques festival. “If the Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for facts that allegedly occurred in 2017, Lomepal has not, to date, been indicted”, recalls David Lisnard, who considers that it is necessary to “not not turn mere accusations into convictions”.
Incidentally, the politician regrets that actor Kevin Spacey, accused of sexual violence by nearly a dozen young men, was “dragged through the mud before being found not guilty by the courts”. David Lisnard believes that French society is facing a “tyranny of purity” and intends to protect “republican universalism” and “preserve freedoms”.
