Max Verstappen crowned world champion in Singapore if….

A second Formula 1 world championship title is what Max Verstappen (24) is aiming for. Last year, the Red Bull driver was crowned on the wire at the end of the last Grand Prix of the season but this time the opportunity is presented to him this Sunday, for the 17th round of the world championship (out of 22) .

Verstappen currently totals 335 points, 116 more than his pursuer Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), 125 than the Mexican Sergio Pérez, his teammate at Red Bull, and 132 than the Briton George Russell (Mercedes). To be able to be world champion on Sunday, the Dutchman must leave Singapore with not 116 but 138 points ahead of the second, that is to say the maximum points to be won in the last five rounds (counting the qualifying sprint race in Brazil).

Mathematically, Vertappen must therefore take 22 points from Leclerc, 13 from Pérez and 6 from Russell on Sunday. He must therefore win the Grand Prix if he wants to be crowned since a victory gives 25 points. The result is not between his but two situations could see him being crowned.

Verstappen relentless: it’s the “Schumacher 2.0”

Max Verstappen titled on Sunday if…

  • He wins the race without the best lap bonus point and Charles Leclerc finishes 9th at best and Sergio Pérez 4th (without the bonus point) or 5th at best (with the bonus point)
  • He won the race with the bonus point for the fastest lap and Charles Leclerc finished 8th at best and Sergio Pérez at best 4th.
