“Friends” star Matthew Perry is writing his memoir. The book should not only be about the cult series, but also about his addiction.

Matthew Perry (52) already announced his autobiography in October 2021 – now it is presented he on Instagram suggested the cover and title of the book: Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.

Of course, the word “Friends” in the title stands for the series of the same name that made Matthew Perry a star. He played Chandler Bing in it from 1994 to 2004. In May 2021, Perry also took part in the cult series’ reunion special on HBO Max.

Addicted to alcohol and Vicodin

“Matthew Perry takes the reader to the stage of the highest-grossing sitcom of all time and tells of his personal battle with addiction,” says Flatiron’s announcement. Perry struggled with drug problems throughout his career.

After a serious accident while filming the film “Fools Rush In” (1997), Perry had an operation on his pancreas. He numbed the pain with alcohol and Vicodin and became addicted. “Perry vividly describes his lifelong struggle with the disease and what led to it, despite seemingly having everything,” the publisher said.

“So much has been written about me in the past. I thought it was about time people heard from me,” writes Perry himself on Instagram. “The highs were high, the lows were low. But I survived to tell the story, even if at times it seemed like I wouldn’t make it.”

Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing is out November 1, 2022.
