These two British actors played Prince Philip in The Crown, the hit series from Netflix. Matt Smith and Tobias Menzies held to salute the memory of Prince Philip, who died this Friday at the age of 99.

Matt Smith, who played the husband of Queen Elizabeth II in the show’s first two seasons, paid tribute to him in a statement sent to The Hollywood Reporter. “I would like to offer my condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family. Prince Philip was the man for the job. And he knew it. Over 99 years old, but what a ride. And what style. Thanks for your service, buddy – it won’t be the same without you, ”the actor wrote.

Tobias Menzies, who plays him in seasons 3 and 4 of the series created by Peter Morgan, meanwhile shared a message this Friday on Twitter : “If there is one thing I know about the Duke of Edinburgh, it is that he certainly wouldn’t want an actor who played him on television to give his opinion on his life, so I’ll let Shakespeare take care of it, ”he wrote, before quoting the famous British playwright. “O good old man! As it appears in you / The constant service of the ancient world… ”
