Matt Smith, who played the husband of Queen Elizabeth II in the show’s first two seasons, paid tribute to him in a statement sent to The Hollywood Reporter. “I would like to offer my condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family. Tobias Menzies, who plays him in seasons 3 and 4 of the series created by Peter Morgan, meanwhile shared a message this Friday on Twitter : “If there is one thing I know about the Duke of Edinburgh, it is that he certainly wouldn’t want an actor who played him on television to give his opinion on his life, so I’ll let Shakespeare take care of it, ”he wrote, before quoting the famous British playwright. “O good old man!
