Masks, childcare, teleworking … We take stock of what changes from this Monday in the face of Covid-19

Wearing a mask from 6 years old

Until January 23 inclusive, wearing a mask becomes compulsory from the age of 6 in internal public transport and places open to the public.

This obligation has so far only applied to children aged 11 and over.

From now on, the mask must also be worn by 6-10 year olds in buses, subways, trains, planes, boats (except in the cabin), taxis or VTC, in stations, stations, airports, during trips to restaurants, in stores, shopping centers, indoor markets, performance halls (except for the practice of artistic activities), places of worship, indoor sports establishments (except for sports activities), museums, libraries, documentation centers, etc.

Isolation of positive cases or contacts

The isolation rules for people who test positive for Covid-19 and contact cases are eased from Monday, but under conditions. They are “now identical whatever the variant”, Delta or Omicron, underlines the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, in the Journal du Dimanche.

With a complete vaccination schedule, those who test positive will have to isolate themselves for seven days, without testing at the end of this period. Their isolation can be lifted earlier, after five days, after an antigen test or negative PCR and provided that they have not had any clinical sign of infection for 48 hours.

Without a complete vaccination schedule, those who test positive will isolate themselves for ten days, but will be able to leave after seven days, under conditions: negative test, no clinical signs for 48 hours.

For contact cases, there is no longer any quarantine if the vaccination schedule is complete. But these people must strictly respect barrier gestures (indoor and outdoor masks, teleworking if possible, limited contact). A PCR or antigen test must be carried out “the day you learn that you are in contact”, specifies the Minister. Self-tests “on D + 2 and D + 4” will follow, provided free of charge in pharmacies on presentation of the first screening.

Contact cases without a complete vaccination schedule or without a reminder carried out in time, will isolate themselves for seven days and will only be able to leave with a negative antigen or PCR test.

For children under 12, contact cases in the school environment, it will be an antigen test or PCR “for all the students in the class as soon as a case appears” in the class and “return to class on presentation of a result negative “, according to the Ministry of Health. Self-tests will be done on D + 2 and D + 4.

Reinforced teleworking

The government asks employers to fix, for “three weeks, a minimum number of three days of teleworking per week for the positions which allow it” and four days if possible.

Child care

Childminders working at their home or in the home of childminders will be able, from Monday, “to welcome up to six children simultaneously” instead of the usual four, according to a decree published on Saturday.

Catering and transport

Until January 23, cafes and restaurants will only be able to receive customers if they have “a seat”, according to this decree. In domestic trains and planes, “the sale and service for consumption on board of food and drink” becomes “prohibited”.

SNCF warns that it will “not be allowed to remove the mask to consume food or drinks” whatever the train, with the exception of Thalys and Eurostar.

But “on long-distance journeys, this measure will be applied with discernment, especially for young children”, assured the Ministry of Transport on Tuesday.

Education

In primary schools, if “a teacher is absent”, the students will not be able to be distributed “in the other classes”, announced Friday the Ministry of National Education.

Sports and shows

The public can only be accommodated if they have a seat in indoor sports establishments (with a capacity of 2,000 people), outdoor establishments (capacity of 5,000) or performance halls (2,000 people).
