Airports in Germany: where is it still mandatory to wear a mask and where is it not?

At the weekend, the corona protection measures will expire in most federal states, including the obligation to wear a mask in many places. The airports react differently to the easing – an overview before the start of the Easter holidays.
The state government of Hesse has relaxed the corona measures. Masks are no longer compulsory in many areas of public life. This also has consequences for Germany’s largest airport. Actually, passengers no longer have to wear mouth and nose protection in areas of the terminals. But the operator of Frankfurt AirportFraport AG, refers to personal responsibility and continues to recommend wearing FFP2 masks to protect yourself and others.
“This applies in particular to the areas in which distances cannot be maintained for a short time,” says a press release. “This primarily includes check-in, passenger checkpoints, the gates and baggage claim. Wearing a mask for self-protection and the protection of fellow human beings also makes sense on passenger buses and the Sky Line train, which commutes between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 .”

Two airports continue to have a mask requirement

In Bavaria, the government of Prime Minister Markus Söder has spoken out against a hotspot regulation. From Sunday, the obligation to wear a mask in schools, shops and indoor public spaces will no longer apply. The state government continues to recommend “wearing medical face masks indoors” on a voluntary basis.
That means for the second largest German Munich Airportthat the Bavarian Infection Protection Ordinance with its loosening is also applied here. However, as in local public transport, a mask must still be worn on buses to handling positions on the apron.
