Acosta leaves nothing to be desired and starts with a best time of 1:34.972 minutes. But Lopez can improve: he is more than half a second faster on his second flying lap and takes the lead.

Schrötter still ranks eighth behind Bendsneyder and Gomez in this session. So the German will have to start his last Grand Prix in the motorcycle world championship from 22nd place on the grid.

In the fourth round, Vietti improves to his first 1:34 time of the session and defends his lead against Agius, who is back in second. Bendsneyder and Gomez currently hold the last Q2 spots. Schrötter is only fifth.

At Roberts there were technical problems. He’s only done three laps so far and is last, but he’s back out now.

The two reserve pilots Gomez and Agius set the pace and initially take the lead, but the veterans pass them on the second flying lap. Vietti, Bendsneyder and Schrötter are all faster.

The on-track action isn’t over yet, with Moto2 qualifying still to come. Schrötter, who missed the direct entry as 16th, has to do it as early as Q1. In his last outing in Moto2, the German will certainly do everything in his power to make the subsequent leap into Q2.

MotoGP Q2: Martin on pole, Quartararo P4

In the last lap, the order doesn’t change: Martin secures pole with his early best time of 1:29.621 minutes – it’s already his fifth this season. The Spaniard shares the first row with Marc Marquez and Miller. Quartararo is fourth ahead of Rins, Vinales and Brad Binder.

Bagnaia remains in eighth place after his ride. The replay shows: he went straight shortly after Zarco’s crash at Turn 6. Zarco finishes ninth. Row four is filled by Aleix Espargaro, Marini and Mir.

MotoGP Q2: Bagnaia and Quartararo go astray

Zarco also fell and Bagnaia is cruising off the track. The TV pictures didn’t show what was going on. Yellow flags are being waved as Quartararo moves up to fourth.

He has one more try, but brakes badly in turn 2 and has to go through the gravel bed.

MotoGP Q2: Miller crashed

Now Marc Marquez is also involved in the front. The Honda rider edged out Miller from second while the Australian crashed and was unable to attack. Because everyone is going fast now, Quartararo is passed down to ninth place. But he can climb back up to eighth place. Bagnaia is eighth, two positions behind.

Vinales goes first for the second run and remains the fourth rider in the session to go under 1:30. That puts it past Quartararo in fourth place. There are still four minutes to drive.

Some drivers, including Bagnaia, are back in the pits. Quartararo is still doing his laps and is able to defend fourth place with a personal improvement.
