Mars: Impressive images show winter landscapes on the red planet

Watch the video: Impressive images show frosty winter landscapes on Mars.

When it comes to Mars, most people picture a red, dry desert landscape, but ice and snow?
Winter landscapes are not only found here on earth. There are seasons on Mars too.
“If you go to the right places, you can find water ice, just like we do on Earth,” explains Sylvain Piquex, NASA Mars Scientist.
And not just on the polar ice caps, explains the scientist. As early as the 1970s, the Viking landers were able to observe frost from water ice far from the poles.
But there is something even more special: CO2 frost can also be found in particularly cold places on the red planet. On Earth, this CO2 ice is only found in the form of artificially produced dry ice.
The scientists were also able to use a laser on the Pheonix lander to prove the existence of snow on Mars. So far, however, there has not been a direct view.
With further knowledge about ice, frost and snow, NASA hopes, among other things, to facilitate the water supply for manned missions on Mars.
