Markus Söder: “Beautiful pictures do not replace good politics” – Bavaria

There are quotes from politicians that only unfold in all their absurdity afterwards. Walter Ulbricht’s “Nobody intends to build a wall” is one of them, a few months before the Berlin Wall was built. Or Bill Clinton’s sentence “I did not have sexual relations with that woman”. Was a lie, the US President at the time did have a sexual relationship with the intern Monica Lewinsky.

Other sentences, on the other hand, make people sit up and take notice the moment they reach the public. Prime Minister Markus Söder released one of these on Wednesday about the federal government’s cabinet retreat.

“Nice pictures are no substitute for good politics,” said the man, who doesn’t shy away from a camera and, if necessary, takes the photo himself if there are unclear circumstances when there is no photographer nearby. But of course only to illustrate political messages.
