“Markus Lanz” and the story of Ryyan Alshebl: From refugee to mayor – media

Ryyan Alshebl has come a long way, from as-Suwaida in southwest Syria to Ostelsheim in the northern Black Forest. To escape the Syrian civil war, he paid $4,000 to a smuggler. He made his way to Istanbul, from there to the Turkish coast, then out to sea in a rubber dinghy. There were no more lights to be seen anywhere, the waves were getting higher and higher, water was running into the boat. And he asked himself: What will it feel like if I drown?
