Pictures from the Maritim Hotel in Cologne show how ex-trainer Markus Anfang on 11.11. Carnival celebrates. Presumably not vaccinated. A spokesman for the organizing association is angry. Meanwhile, there is a risk of further adversity at the beginning, also professionally.

11/11 the carnival begins and in strongholds like Cologne the date is a kind of national holiday – especially for native Cologne residents like Markus Anfang. And because 11.11. was exactly between two national team games this year, everyday Bundesliga life was canceled and players and coaches had time off. As pictures show, the then Werder Bremen coach used the opportunity and celebrated the opening of the session disguised as a cook with the carnival club “Rote Funken” in the old homeland. So far so good. But for the party guests there, in the Maritim Hotel, 2G plus applied. Markus Anfang may have been tested, he was presumably not vaccinated or recovered.

Markus initial behavior is “unfair”

Günter Ebert, spokesman for the “Rote Funken”, confirmed this starthat Markus Anfang bought and picked up the tickets for the event. He could not say with absolute certainty whether the beginning was actually there at the Maritim Hotel, but “when I look at the pictures”, it looks very much like it. “We enacted the 2G plus rule weeks ago and it is not fair that he does not adhere to it. If he has not been vaccinated, he should at least stay at home,” said Ebert.

The football teacher’s vaccination status has been a concern of the authorities since the end of last week. During a routine follow-up of SV Werder players’ contact, inconsistencies in Markus Anfang’s vaccination certificate were noticed. According to the Bremen public prosecutor’s office, the “suspicion that the initial vaccination certificate is a fake” has been confirmed. For example, the given batch number was never inoculated, said the chief prosecutor in charge, Frank Passade.

After the police came to the coach and the club last week, the 47-year-old resigned from his post. Because the beginning was willing to cooperate and had given his apparently incorrect vaccination card and other documents, the police refrained from further searches. So far, the ex-coach has not admitted any misconduct.

If the presumption of forgery is confirmed, there is a risk of full sanctions at the beginning: a fine or even imprisonment is possible for forgery of documents. The German Football Association is also entrusted with the case: “We can confirm that the DFB control committee is also examining the Markus Anfang matter,” the association writes star-Inquiry. First of all, it is about a possible violation of the hygiene concept. Whether and what consequences the investigation could have, for example on the coaching license, has so far been “purely speculative – especially since the presumption of innocence applies initially,” said the DFB.

Transfer fee paid at the beginning

The beginning had only come to the Weser in the summer and should start the reconstruction of the Green-Whites after the first descent in 41 years. But now the second division has to look for a new head coach. Bremen’s sports director Frank Baumann had made himself strong before the start of the season and even paid a transfer fee to the predecessor club SV Darmstadt 98.
