Marktschorgast: Mayor and police save truck drivers – Bavaria

The man spent two nights in the cold because his vehicle’s battery died. A third cold night prevented the mayor of Marktschorgast from taking action.

The mayor of Marktschorgast and the Stadtsteinach police have helped a freezing truck driver in his plight. The 48-year-old had spent the night from Friday to Saturday in his vehicle in sub-zero temperatures, the police said on Monday. The battery gave out so that the auxiliary heating failed and the car would not start the next morning. Attempts to reach the responsible forwarding company were unsuccessful. The man did not have the money to reach the breakdown service himself.

During the night from Saturday to Sunday he unloaded a mobile home from his truck in Marktschorgast (Kulmbach district) and slept there. It was only on Sunday evening that the man managed to contact the police with the help of a walker. Because another night in the cold vehicle would not have been reasonable, the officials contacted the mayor of Marktschorgast. He organized an emergency shelter for the man.
