Markt Schwaben: Hot oil triggers fire in terraced house – Ebersberg

A kitchen fire broke out in a terraced house in Markt Schwaben on Sunday evening. When the first rescue workers from the fire brigade arrived, the entire terraced house was already so smoked that entry without special equipment was no longer possible. Several respiratory protection wearers entered the terraced house, opened the windows for ventilation and extinguished the fire.

This was apparently created when two residents wanted to heat up oil for deep-frying. It got too hot and caught fire. Attempts to extinguish the fire with a blanket failed, so the fire spread to the entire kitchenette and the apartment filled with smoke. The three people who were in the apartment left it and called the fire department. However, one resident ran back to check on the cat, causing her to suffer mild smoke inhalation. She had to be taken to a hospital for treatment, but the other two people were unharmed.

According to initial estimates, the damage caused purely by the fire is around 10,000 euros, as the entire kitchenette burned out and the wall behind it was damaged. However, since the entire apartment was full of smoke and soot, the damage to the building’s substance is likely to be significantly higher, according to the police. The residents had to leave the building for the time being because it was no longer habitable.

In addition to the two fire brigades from Markt Schwaben and Ottenhofen with around 40 emergency services, two ambulances and a patrol from the Poing police station were also deployed.
