The first trailer for the Amy Winehouse biopic “Back to Black” is here. Marisa Abela embodies the singer who died far too early.

Amy Winehouse died in 2011 at the age of just 27. A biopic about the British singer is due to be released in a few weeks, titled “Back to Black” – just like the album of the same name that made Winehouse a star in the 2000s. A first trailer has now been released.

“Back to Black”: A film about art and demons

The clip, which is just over a minute long, shows moving images of the British actress Marisa Abela (27) in the role of the singer for the first time.

“I don’t write songs to be famous. I write songs because I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t,” says Winehouse, played by Abela, in the trailer. And: “I want people to hear my voice and just forget about their problems.” She should be remembered for simply being herself.

In addition to Abela, known from the series “Industry”, “Back to Black” also stars Lesley Manville (67), Eddie Marsan (55) and Jack O’Connell (33).

The director is the British Sam Taylor-Johnson (56), who was also responsible for the first “Fifty Shades of Grey” film adaptation in 2015. Taylor-Johnson also brings music experience. She also shot the John Lennon film biography “Nowhere Boy”.

According to Studiocanal, “Back to Black” is intended to “honor the artistry, esprit and honesty” of Winehouse, but also attempts to “understand her demons.”

The cinema release in Germany is planned for April 18, 2024.
