There are supposed to be the kind of marital disputes that one of the partners only deals with themselves. In a kind of internal dialogue that quickly escalates. When something of this gets to the other person, he (or she) is astonished. The writer Marion Poschmann talked about something like this in her novel “The Pine Islands”: “He had dreamed that his wife was cheating on him. Gilbert Silvester woke up and was beside himself.”
