Marina Abramovic taught in Essen. Magic is happening there now

The great Marina Abramovic taught young artists in Essen. The result is brilliant and irritating. A site visit. And a conversation with Marina Abramovic.

A body slowly rolls in the feathers on the ground, stretches one leg up, feathers stuck together. It is unclear whether this is still a human or already a chicken. “The Chicken” is the name of the performance by Klara Günther, born in 1998, from Bremen. She gets naked here, in the middle of the Museum Folkwang in Essen. She takes off her clothes bit by bit, it’s more like peeling than undressing, and then puts on a feather dress. Get naked, face your fears. While the body initially appears vulnerable in space, the transformation increasingly conveys strength. It takes six hours in total. That’s demanding, that’s tough. And that is just the beginning.
