First Tony Award as a producer in sight?

The Tony Awards nominations are in. Among other things, Mariah Carey could win the award for best musical as a producer.
Mariah Carey (54) is one of the most successful singers of the present, but she does not yet have a Tony Award in her showcase. That could soon change: The Broadway musical “Some Like It Hot”, on which she serves as producer, has been nominated for “Best Musical” at the 76th Tony Awards on June 11th.
Mariah Carey’s musical is the favorite
Mariah Carey could emulate her colleague Jennifer Hudson (41), who last year won one of the coveted Tony Awards as the producer of the musical “A Strange Loop”. The musical, in which Carey is involved behind the scenes, is considered the big favorite at the prestigious awards ceremony in the theater and musical industry. The piece has been nominated in a total of 13 categories. The musical is an adaptation of the well-known classic film Some Like It Hot, starring Marylin Monroe, whom Mariah Carey greatly admires.
That’s what connects Mariah Carey to “Some Like It Hot”
“I was first introduced to the story through the timeless film starring Marilyn Monroe. She has always been an important touchstone in my life, so much so that I acquired her beloved white grand piano at auction,” quoted “ET Online” from a statement by Mariah Carey at the start of her work as a producer. When musical film producer Neil Meron (67) introduced her to this new version of her beloved film, she knew she wanted to be there. She’s excited to bring “Some Like It Hot” to new audiences in today’s world.
Of course, the musical version of “Some Like It Hot” also has some competition at the Tony Awards. The stage plays “& Juliet”, “Shucked” and “New York, New York” are nominated in nine categories each. The Broadway play “Kimberly Akimbo” is nominated for eight prizes.
