Maria Lwova-Belowa is said to be responsible for kidnapping Ukrainian children

Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin is to answer in court. Not (yet) for his war of aggression per se, but for the deportation of thousands of Ukrainian children. If investigators have their way, a certain Maria Lvowa-Belowa will be sitting next to him in the dock. Who is the woman?

Even if the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague does not admit it, the arrest warrant for the alleged war criminal Vladimir Putin is likely to be purely symbolic politics. To put it mildly, it is doubtful that the Kremlin chief will ever find himself in a dock. However, no matter how “meaningless” Moscow considers the arrest warrant to be, at least it is historical. It is the first time ever that the ICC has issued an arrest warrant for a sitting head of state of a UN Security Council member.
