You are no longer on the throne. But that doesn’t mean that Margrethe, Beatrix or Sofia sit back.
Not all royals want to sit on the throne until their last breath. In Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain, the older generation made room during their lifetime. Things have become a little quieter around Queen Sofia (85) and Princess Beatrix (86) since they stepped back into the second row. Becomes queen Margrethe (83), who recently resigned, do the same? Margrethe lives out her creativity
Margrethe II only handed over the throne to her son Frederik (55) on January 14th. A short time later she was back in the role of regent – if only temporarily. The 83-year-old, whose husband Prince Henrik of Denmark died in 2018, has long been pursuing her creative interests as a painter, costume and set designer.

According to the report, producers said they will tell the story from the perspective of members of the royal family and employees of the royal court. The series will show “the royal family for better and for worse.” Above all, it is the story of “a girl and her family,” according to the producers.
Princess Beatrix keeps fit
Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands abdicated in 2013. Sofia of Spain remains true to herself

She sat on the Spanish throne together with Juan Carlos I (86) from 1975 to 2014. The couple married in 1962. Since her husband’s abdication in 2014, Sofia has continued to bear the honorary title of Queen. While Juan Carlos has not lived in Spain since 2020 after a series of scandals – in 2022 he confirmed that he would remain permanently in the United Arab Emirates – his wife has remained in Madrid.
According to media reports, the 85-year-old is considered the most popular member of the Spanish royal family. The old queen also continues to attend public appointments. She is also committed to social causes through a foundation named after her. She is also committed to projects in the areas of environment and culture. Last year, the mother of King Felipe VI. (56) collected garbage again as a volunteer, among other things. According to Spanish media reports, she and around twenty other people were traveling to Murcia for this purpose.
