After Peter Frank moved to the Federal Constitutional Court, a new Federal Prosecutor General was sought. It should now be Jens Rommel. He already knows the authority from the inside.

bJustice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) has proposed federal judge Jens Rommel as the new Federal Prosecutor General. Rommel should succeed Peter Frank, who was appointed judge of the Federal Constitutional Court at the end of December, the Federal Ministry of Justice announced on Friday.

Rommel has been a judge at the Federal Court of Justice since 2020 and is assigned to the 4th Criminal Senate. He was also assigned the role of investigative judge at the Federal Court of Justice for almost four years.

Between 2015 and 2020, Rommel headed the central office of the state judicial administration for solving National Socialist crimes in Ludwigsburg. He got to know the Federal Prosecutor’s Office better from 2007 to 2010; At that time he was seconded to the Karlsruhe authorities as a research assistant. His appointment as Federal Prosecutor General requires the approval of the Federal Council. A successor for Frank became necessary because he was elected as a judge at the Federal Constitutional Court.
