Map shows heat wave in Germany – hospitals sound the alarm

Weather in Germany
Map shows where it’s getting hot – hospitals are sounding the alarm

The weather is currently very summery. A real heat wave hits the south in particular.

A heat wave sweeps across Germany. Our map shows where temperatures are highest. From next week it will be tropically warm almost everywhere – with some unpleasant consequences.

The weather in Germany is currently not as threatening as in some regions of southern Europe, where a state of emergency has been declared due to the extreme heat. But it will also be hot in Germany – especially after the coming weekend, when meteorologists expect a new heat wave.

The beginning of the very hot weather is this Wednesday in southwest Germany, for which the German weather service expects up to 34 degrees. Thursday should then be the hottest day of this week in Germany, with up to 36 degrees in the south-western regions of Germany, as is also the case with “Wetter.de”. The DWD expects 29 degrees in the southwest and south on Thursday, and up to 35 degrees in Breisgau. The high “Iosif” is responsible for this.

The map shows the current forecast. With a click you get to the provider “Wetter.de.

Even in the north, where it is initially cooler and the temperatures will probably not rise above 25 degrees, sunny weather will prevail on Wednesday, according to the experts from “Wetter.de”.

Heat wave especially in the south

In general, however, the weather in Germany will remain divided – according to the current forecasts, there will not be any extreme heat in the north in the next few days, as a weak cold front from the low “Barbara” will still have an impact there. So there is heat in the south and pleasant summer weather in the north. “A new heat wave will start on Sunday,” predict the meteorologists from “Wetter.de”. The German Fire Brigade Association expects vegetation fires because of the partially dried out soil.

And before Germany really heats up again, the cold front of the North Sea low “Anij” is expected to cool down temporarily with temperatures of 18 to 25 degrees at the weekend – but again only in the north and in the middle of Germany. In the south and southwest up to 30 degrees are also possible on these days.

After that, the heat starts again from France, especially at the beginning of the new week, write the experts from the DWD. In its ten-day forecast, the weather service expects around 38 degrees locally in the southwest next Tuesday, otherwise 30 to 36 degrees. In the north it will be up to 33 degrees.

Clinics in Germany poorly equipped for extreme heat

The extremely high temperatures are now worrying the hospitals. The German Hospital Society (DKG) warned on Wednesday about the consequences of the heat and called for an investment program to adapt the hospital building to the high temperatures. DKG board member Gerald Gass expects many heat-related hospital cases, as he told the newspapers of the Germany editorial network. According to his information, there is usually not even air conditioning in patient rooms.

Great Britain is also currently discussing the consequences of the heat for the health system, as high temperatures of up to 34 degrees are also expected in south-east England at the beginning of the coming week. The fact that patients might then have to stay in overheated ambulances for a long time is already a big problem, writes the “Guardians“.

While some regions of Europe are still waiting for the heat wave, parts of southern Europe are already firmly in its grip. Portugal and Spain recently reported temperatures of more than 40 degrees, for France Météo France expects 39 degrees in some regions this Wednesday. A new heat wave is expected in Greece next week, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees.
