Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of rape, assault and death threats. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed in a statement Wednesday morning: “A 20-year-old man arrested on Sunday 30 January 2022 on suspicion of raping and assaulting a woman is pending completion released on bail pending investigation.”

The investigations against the England international, who was suspended by the Red Devils “until further notice” after the allegations against him, continue indefinitely.

Manchester United: Serious allegations against Greenwood

The club previously announced that the 20-year-old was aware of the “images and allegations” that have surfaced about him on social media.

Local police confirmed last week that a man in his 20s had been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. “Greater Manchester Police were today made aware of images and videos posted on social media by a woman describing physical violence,” the statement said.

In addition, the GPM appealed: “We remind people to avoid any comments or sharing of images that could jeopardize the victim’s right to lifelong anonymity or risk compromising an ongoing investigation with an active process.”

After the initial investigation, the GMP was authorized to hold Greenwood in custody for questioning about the allegations. The extension of the arrest ended on Wednesday.
