Manchester United is looking for a coach. A possible candidate should be Carlo Ancelotti, but not as a long-term solution.

Manchester United are apparently also considering Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti when filling the coaching post for the coming season as the successor to Ralf Rangnick – but only as a short-term solution for one season. That reports ESPN.

The Red Devils are actually looking for a long-term coaching solution and have apparently created a list of five possible candidates. This should include Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag and Luis Enrique. With these, however, it is questionable whether they will be available at all for the coming season.

Manchester United: problems with preferred candidates

While the preferred candidate Pochettino is still under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2023, Ajax coach ten Hag probably has concerns about the club structure at United. Spain’s national coach Luis Enrique would only be available after the end of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, i.e. at the end of December.

According to John Murtough, Manchester United’s director of football, the new manager should “put the club back in contention for domestic and European titles”. The club officials apparently trust Ancelotti with this task as a short-term option.

Ancelotti tied to Real Madrid until 2024

Ancelotti, who is under contract with Real Madrid until 2024, has a close personal relationship with Manchester legend Sir Alex Ferguson. United boss Richard Arnold apparently asked him for advice when asked about a new coach.

After the 1-0 first leg defeat in the Champions League round of 16 at PSG, there was speculation that Ancelotti would leave Real Madrid early. The Italian has already worked successfully in the Premier League with Chelsea FC and Everton FC.
