Manager: How Status Symbols Change – Economy

Large company car, spacious office, shiny frequent flyer card – what used to be important managers is suddenly no longer relevant in the pandemic. About the fundamental change in status symbols.

Somehow business people used to have it easier if they wanted to show the world who they were dealing with. That was because the status symbol thing was so wonderfully trivial and clichéd. A veteran manager remembers how little you needed back in the 1990s: a presentable company car, for example from Daimler, always worked. A Lufthansa Senator card was definitely included, and an ocher-colored leather case with two golden hinges (matching the tie pin), in which the project manager then took his presentations for a walk.
