Man pretends to be a gynecologist to get intimate pictures of patients

For years, a man claimed to be a gynecologist on Facebook and demanded intimate photos and videos from patients. Now he has to go to jail for that.

Trust is the be-all and end-all between patients and doctors – this applies in every medical specialty, but especially for gynecologists. A man from Singapore, on the other hand, shamelessly exploited the trust of his patients: As the US broadcaster CNN reports, he pretended to be female on Facebook. He pretended to patients who sought medical advice that he was a gynaecologist.

This is how he got intimate pictures of dozens of women. For four years, the man’s true identity remained undiscovered. Only in July last year did a woman become suspicious. She found out that the alleged doctor did not exist and alerted the police. The scammer ended up in court and has now been sentenced to three years and four months in prison.

Fake gynecologist received almost a thousand photos

The court found him guilty of fraud and stayed just under the sentence of three years and eight months imprisonment demanded by the prosecutor. The prosecutor emphasized the high number of victims and how long the man had misled women under a false identity. The 37-year-old confessed to the crimes during police interrogations. Investigators found many intimate images on his devices, which were secured during a house search.

A total of 38 women were affected, who had sent almost a thousand photos and videos to the scammer – including numerous recordings of their genitals. They also had to provide information about their sex organs and their sexual preferences in questionnaires.

“The defendant carried out a carefully considered plan to satisfy his sexual desires,” the prosecutor said. “He pretended to be a doctor and tricked victims into sending various compromising photos and videos of themselves. He abused the public’s trust in doctors and he used social media to commit the crimes.”
