At a price of 33.50 euros, a person who has now been arrested offered the delivery of a so-called corona kit by post.

The Dutch financial police have arrested a man who allegedly offered the delivery of coronaviruses for self-infection on the Internet. The suspect is in connection with a corresponding website, which has since been switched off, reported the anti-fraud unit of the Ministry of Finance (FIOD) in The Hague.

Tubes with a corona virus liquid

The newspaper “De Telegraaf” reported on Saturday that a so-called corona kit was offered there for 33.50 euros by post. Allegedly it should have contained a tube with a virus liquid and a self-test. The providers therefore promised that the viruses were not older than three months and that buyers could therefore “be sure that the latest mutations and variants are included”.

Health care agency warns of self-infection

According to FIOD, potential buyers were promised that after self-infection and recovering from illness, the health authorities could issue a certificate for those who have recovered in accordance with the 2G rule. The suspect is now at large. “The further investigations must show whether he has sold something and, if so, how much and whether that works at all,” said a FIOD spokesman for the ANP news agency.

The health care authority warned against self-infections: “Those who deliberately infect themselves are culpably endangering public health,” said a spokeswoman. Since the end of November, the Netherlands has been taking action against an increase in corona infections and an impending overload of hospitals with an evening lockdown. Shops, cultural venues, restaurants and sports clubs must close by 5 p.m. at the latest.
