Gündogan dreams of home EM and Champions League final

National soccer player Ilkay Gündogan hopes to be able to take part in the European Championships in his own country next year. Before that, he wants to fulfill a dream with Man City: winning the Champions League.
The German national soccer player Ilkay Gündogan (32) definitely wants to be at the European Championship 2024 in Germany.
“It would be a privilege for me to play this tournament in our home country next year,” said the Manchester City captain to the news portal “t-online”. “But there is still a long way to go. We all know that we have to improve and deliver better performances and better results before the tournament.”
First, however, Gündogan is aiming to win the Champions League with Manchester City. “Of course we want to win this trophy,” he said ahead of his team’s quarter-final second leg at Bayern Munich on Wednesday. “It’s our big dream to win the Champions League.” But nobody in his team should make the mistake of already thinking about the final in Istanbul, emphasized the midfielder.
3-0 cushion
Gündogan does not believe that his Cityzens, who have never won an international title, have one foot in the semi-finals after the 3-0 win in the first leg. “It’s only half-time in this duel,” he told t-online. “We’re taking a really positive result from the first leg, but we need to repeat that in the second leg and play our absolute best there again.”
Man City is also still represented in the FA Cup and in the race for the English football championship. As second in the Premier League, Gündogan and Co. are four points behind leaders FC Arsenal and have a game in hand. On April 26, the two teams will meet in Manchester in what will probably be the decisive match.
